On the evening of February 3, the members of Shaoyang CPPCC and the people’ s deputies of Shaoyang City went to the Movie Center of Beita District to watch the film shot from Qi Opera the Third Aunt Li stared by CPPCC member and Plum Award winner Xiao Xiaobo. All of them were touched by her beautiful make-ups, graceful figures and high-pitched singing. The film lasted one hour and a half with people’ s close attention.
‘It is beyond my expectation that the film adapted from Qi Opera is so nice to see. The plot is moving to me.’ Having watched the film, member of Hunan Committee of the CPPCC and well-known sculptor Lei Nixin could not wait to praise the leading role.
‘It’ s a great fruit brought about with the help of Shaoyang CPPCC members!’ was the voice of some committee members who knew of the whole event.
After the show ended, many of the audience came around the starring actress who was also present. They asked about the story of the film.

A dream coming out
‘Department Director Yang, you really did a good thing.’ said provincial committee member of the CPPCC and Party secretary of Hunan Literary Union JiangXuegong to Yang Jinyuan, provincial committee member of the CPPCC and deputy director of the Propaganda Department of Hunan Provincial Committee of the CPC.
The story began like this. At the group meeting of the 2013 session of Hunan CPPCC, Director of the Provincial Broadcast &TV Bureau Yang Jinyuan, moved by Xiao Xiaobo’ s speech about Qi Opera, came up with an idea of photographing a film of Qi Opera .
Before that, the Provincial Broadcast &TV Bureau had started the project of photographing classical local opera plays and succeeded in shooting Flower Drum Opera plays Five Daughters Congratulating On Their Parent’ s Birthday and the Anecdotes Of the Cousin, which were popular among people.
Then Yang came to Shaoyang to watch Qi Opera for many times in order to discuss the project with Shaoyang Qi Opera Troupe. Finally they selected two plays: the Third Aunt Li and Wang Hua Selling His Father, the former of which tells about a woman waiting devotedly for her husband’ s return through 16 years’ sufferings in the Five-dynasty Period.
Yang demanded the troupe to revise the play repeatedly according the the characteristics of movie and the demands of modern audience. He invited Golden Rooster Award winner Zhu Zhaowei to direct the film. Last year the photographing work started at the Movie City in Hengdian Town. The ceremony of first show of the film took place in Shaoyang two months ago.
‘How happy you are, Xiaobo!’ said CPPCC member and well-known singer Liao Sha, ‘The film is full of positive energy and is exquisitely-photographed, though there is some room for improvement.’

The dream coming true
‘I never thought I can have my performance made into a film.’ Xiao Xiaobo, who was accustomed to acting on simple and poor rural stages, told the reporter, ‘This is the second film of Qi Opera over 500 years of its history. I feel like being in a dream.’
Ever since, the Provincial Broadcast &TV Bureau has been in charge of examining, approving and promoting films. Yang Jinyuan made deliberate efforts to raise six million yuan for the film. Six million, which is a slight sum of money for a commercial film, is undoubtedly an astronomical figure for the opera.
‘Classical local operas are the living fossils of culture as well as intangible cultural heritages.’ Yang told the reporter, ‘But they are not relics to be adored, that is, they must not be caged on the stage. They should go into masses of people to become more popular among them.
Though Qi Opera is local, it is new to many Provincial CPPCC members. Director of the Highway Administrative Bureau Liu Bosheng could not stop his praising, ‘The singing of Qi Opera is so beautiful beyond my imagination.’
Xiao Xiaobo often sighs with excitement because the CPPCC has provided many opportunities for Qi Opera to shine brilliantly. At the  2014 session of the 11th Provincial Committee of the CPPCC, Xiao Xiaobo spoke to Governor Du Jiahao about the hardships of passing on Qi Opera to future generations. At hearing this, Du decided on the spot to provide special funds for local operas of intangible heritage. Then five local operas, including Qi Opera and Flower Drum Opera, each got 1.2 million yuan annually for successively five years.
‘Qi Opera is nice to listen to. The film is valuable. It should have more viewers.’ It was a suggestion from Hu Senzhi, a member and director of the Culture & History Office of the Provincial Committee of the CPPCC. He advised promoting films of local operas by way of proposals. A film made with all efforts should not lie idle without audience, he said.
