Just before the New Year’s Day, the President of the Association Lin Lanjun visited some of the members or executive members of the Association along with secretariat personnel. Shaoyang Brain Hospital (also called Shaoyang Mental Hospital), established in 1959 by the municipal government, is a non-profit hospital directly under control of the municipal health authority. It is located near Peach Blossom Cave, a place covered by trees and beautiful scenery in southern part of the city.
The hospital occupies an area of 60 mu, including a building area of 30,000 square meters. It has 640 controlled beds and 900 open beds with 300 employees, among which 240 are professional personnel, including 14 holding senior titles and 60 holding intermediate titles. It consists of a clinic department dealing with mental disease, methadone maintenance, headache, insomnia and epilepsy, 10 clinical departments （2 for women, 3 for men, 2 for short term cure, 2 for geriatric rehabilitation, and 1 for mental disease）, Shaoyang Psychological Consultation Center, Shaoyang Boda Judicial Testimony Institute, Prophylaxis and Treatment Center for Epilepsy, Child Psychological Health Laboratory and 8 functional examination divisions. The hospital looks like a garden with graceful surroundings. The impatient building is an ideal place for the treatment and rehabilitation of all diseases, with comfortable hospitalization conditions, including central air-condition unit, independent toilet and TV set in each ward.
The hospital has a strong technical force and advanced medical facilities, including digital ambulatory electroencephalogram, brain electrical activity mapping device, transcranial doppler, colored B ultra, diagnostic system for mental disease (CT), therapeutic apparatus for insomnia, brain wave therapeutic apparatus, cerebral circulation therapeutic apparatus, electric shock without tics therapeutic apparatus, fully automatic biochemical analyzer, X-ray digitized photography (CR).
The hospital, ranked as Two-AA at the moment, is the teaching and researching center in the south west Hunan for prevention and cure of mental diseases, and such diseases can be cured here professionally as mental disorder, senile diseases, depressive disorder, neuroses, epilepsia, post-traumatic brain syndrome, all kinds of mental disturbances caused by physical diseases, mentality (behavior) disorder for children, headache, insomnia, psychological problems, winebowl, net-addiction, and drug addiction.
The hospital is honored as a civilized hospital at provincial level, a member unit of the appraisal group at municipal level for disabled children, a designated hospital of the new rural co-operative medical system，a designated hospital for urban staff’s health insurance and employment injury insurance, a civilization and sanitation unit at municipal level and a garden-like unit at municipal level.
