On July 2, our reporters learned from the press conference for 2015· China Hunan (Nanshan) June 6 Folk Song Festival that the preparations for the festival activities, two key ones and five supporting ones, go smoothly.

Zhao Weiji released the news at the news conference hosted by Yao Weihong, director of the news release department of Hunan Provincial Government and attended by Deng Dongyuan, vice chairman of Hunan Literary Federation and chairman of Hunan Musicians Association and Luo Jiannan, Party secretary of Chengbu Miao Autonomous County.

With the theme of Going Up to Nanshan With Folk Songs, the whole activity, from May 15 to July 21, uses Chengbu as the home court to connect all the scenic spots of the county and all the competition areas throughout the country via modern media, such as television, network and the press.

June 6 Folk Song Festival originated from the ancient customs of the minorities such as Miao and Dong living in Chengbu Autonomous County. Chengbu, one of the five Miao autonomous counties of the whole country, is rich in ecological tourism resources and folk culture. In the long-term struggling for existence, its 24 minorities such as Miao, Dong and Yao, have been using folk songs to inspire their fighting spirit, guard their homeland, transfer friendship, pursue happiness and tell historic stories. In the 5th year of Qianlong Emperor’s reign (1740), a peasant uprising broke out on June 6 (according to the Chinese lunar calendar). During their fighting against the government, the peasants encouraged themselves with folk songs and since then June 6 has been celebrated as Folk Song Festival.
The two key activities and five supporting ones are arranged as follows:
1. Nationwide Song Competition · First National Championship of Folk Songs
Activity time: May 15 – July 21, 2015, divided by two stages: first being the nationwide competition to choose 10 top singers throughout the country and the second being the award party.
2. Merry Songs in Nanshan · Opening Ceremony for June 6 Folk Song Festival
Time: on the morning of July 21 (June 6 according to the lunar calendar), 2015 when representative programs of the four Hunan activities (June 6 Nanshan Folk Song Festival, Huaihua Tongdao Dawuliang Singing Festival, West Hunan Jishou International Drum Festival and Zhangjiajie Country Music Week) will gather at Ziyang Peak of Nanshan for the opening ceremony of the festival.
3. Songs Transmitted by Festival · Creation Activity for the Theme Song of the Festival
Activity time: May 15-June 30, 2015, during which famous musicians will be invited to Chengbu and the theme music for the festival will be selected, sung by famous singers and made into MTV.
4. Love Song in the Prairie · Video Network Competition for Marriage Theme
Activity time: June 15-July 20, 2015 when couples or lovers are encouraged to come to Nanshan with their video clips made with folk song as music background and Nanshan as picture background, and determined by the net friends whether they will win the prize.
5. Be Drunk with Songs in the Miao Land· Folk Song Competition Throughout Chengbu County
Activity time: June 15-June 20, 2015 when selection of singers at all levels is carried out at the foot of Lion Hill of Chengbu County, including 6 preliminary contests, 3 intermediary heats and 1 final.
6. Singing in the Mountains ·Round Hunan Bicycle Race Nanshan Division
Time: on the morning of July 21 (June 6 according to the lunar calendar), 2015 when the competitors running from downtown of Chengbu to Nanshan Prairie with small-size loudspeaker fixed on every bicycle so that during the race the theme of the activity will be heard when the folk songs are played.
7. Songs on the Journey · Introduction and Marketing Event for China Four-wheel- drive (Chengbu, Dao County, Xinning and Suining)
Time: on the afternoon of June 21 (June 6 according to the lunar calendar) when the introduction and marketing event organized by Hunan Tourist Administration, is carried out by means of playing video in all the four counties, explaining at the spots, delivering promotion materials and signing contracts.
