Shaoyang ‘Environment-protection New Year Evening’ Starting Joyfully
On the evening of December 27, out of the meeting center on the third floor of Baigongcheng Hotel came constantly bursts of cheers, applause and bravos, with the performances of singing, dancing and fashion shows going on. This was a special New Year Evening created, directed and performed by a group of volunteers for environmental protection. The joyful evening party was jointly-held by Shaoyang Environment-protecting Volunteers’ Association and Longxutang Branch Committee of the CPPCC of Shuangqing District.
Present at the evening party were leaders from Shaoyang People’s Congress, Shaoyang CPPCC Municipal Committee, the Environmental Protection Bureau of Shaoyang, the Government of Shuangqing District and Longxutang Office of Shuangqing District along with all the volunteers for environmental protection and other enthusiastic masses of people. All the audience enjoyed the evening specially for ‘propagating the concept of environmental protection and advocating a low-carbon life’
The evening began with ‘The Power Of Jazz’ performed by the workers of Shaoyang Service Center For Social Harmony. This was followed by a delightful dance titled ‘The Overture Of Youth’ from Educated Youth Troupe of Shaoyang Educated Youth Culture Research Association, whose cheerful performance displayed the color of youth and the wonder of life, reminding the audience of the beautiful spring to come. Shaoyang Educated Youth Troupe, whose all members are aged around sixty and used to settle down in the countryside as educated young people, is a red troupe active on the stages of Shaoyang and even a most active one of the few educated youth troupes in the country.
Of the performers some were old grannies in their sixties or seventies and some were little girls of about ten. With their solos, choruses, dances, martial arts and bicycle-riding skills, all the performers did their best to win bursts of applause from the audience. Especially worthy to be mentioned was twelve-year-old Sun Zijian, who is a popular child star in China, the youngest member of China Democratic National Construction Association and an artist in contract with Hunan TV, performed a flute solo and martial arts of the sword, which made a sensation in the meeting center.
Protecting environment was the theme of the evening party. Shaoyang Environment-protecting Volunteers’ Association put on a chorus titled ‘The Song Of Environment-protecting Volunteers’ Association . Yu Jing, an environment-protecting volunteer and also member of Shaoyang Musicians’ Association, sang a song ‘Our Dream’. Both of them expressed people’ s wish to do a bit from today in order to leave for future generations a living environment with green water and a blue sky and finally make China Dream come true. And the programme ‘Fashion Show’, in which the fashionable dresses of so-called ‘international brand’ were made of waste plastic, demonstrated the idea of making the most of natural resources, giving the audience a surprising delight as well as a new sight to eyes.
It is said that Shaoyang Environment-protecting Volunteers’ Association is a folk organization not for benefits but for public interests, whose members are volunteers and entrepreneurs who are keen on public welfare. Its aim is to put into practice the idea of being friendly to environment, advocate green consumption, create a city of civilization and sanitation and protect mother rivers, by way of guiding the public in self-actions to fight against, reduce and deal with pollution so as to protect environment for future generations’ welfare.
Since 160 days ago when it was set up, the organization has carried out a series of activities, such as ‘Low-carbon Green Travel Through Less Riding In Cars’, ‘A Survey Of Rubbish Burying Ground’, ‘An Investigation Into The Polluted Rivers’ and ‘Rubbish Classification In Communities’, which have helped to improve citizens’ awareness of environmental protection. ‘Environmental protection is very important.’ said a citizen named Zheng Xinhua, ‘Otherwise, the earth we depend on to live will be destroyed by ourselves some day in the future.
