Shaoyang’s First YoungPioneer Hero Squadron—YuanGuoping Squadron founded

On April 8, the founding ceremony for Shaoyang’s first Young Pioneer Hero Squadron —Yuan Guoping Squadron was held in Zhonghejie Primary School.  Attending the ceremony were Jiao Chengyi, executive president of China Red Culture Development Promotion Association, Li Lanjun, former mayor of Shaoyang Municipal Government and president of Shaoyang International Culture Association, Liu Shaohong, deputy president of China Red Culture Development Promotion Association, deputy president of Beijing Shaoyang Chamber of Commerce, president of Beijing Swift House Decoration Co., Ltd. and president of Hunan Guohong Agricultural Tourism Development Co., Ltd.                                 
 
Yuan Guoping, born from a poor family in Shaodong, entered Huangpu Military Academy in October 1925 and joined the Communist Party the same year. Then he took part in the Northern Expedition, Nanchang Uprising, Guangzhou Uprising, Long March, and Anti-Japanese War. He was one of the high rank army officials in the history of Chinese army and made a great contribution to the establishment of the army’s political work.   On January 13, 1941, Yuan Guoping, then director of Political Department of the New Fourth Army, was seriously wounded during the battle when the headquarters of the New Fourth Army was besieged by Kuomintang troops. In order that his subordinates could break through the encirclement, he killed himself with the last bullet and died a hero at the age 34.  
 


The flag for Yuan Guoping Squadron was conferred to Class 169 of the primary school by Mr. Jiao Chengy. He said that there are more than 700 Young Pioneer squadrons in China named hero squadrons and over 30 have been established following the examples of our revolutionary martyrs.  He hoped that the Young Pioneers will follow Yuan Guoping’s example and become useful talents for the society.
