On March 30, the sun revealed its smiling face after a long time in dimness and a small village called Huicang in Shaodong of Hunan Province became the focus of media headed by CCTV. Early in the morning, there was a stream of cars and crowds driving on the road leading to Huicang, where China Shaoyang 3rd International Local Culture Festival & Shaodong 1st Rape Flower Festival was being held. Zhao Weiji, deputy mayor of Shaoyang Municipal Government made an address, speaking highly of Ms Zhao Shaohong for her brave and pioneering Baogulao (Shaoyang) spirit and her courage and wisdom to hold this rape flower festival.
Ms Liu Shaohong, deputy president of China Red Culture Promotion Association, deputy president of Beijing Shaoyang Chamber of Commerce, president of Beijing Swift House Decoration Co., Ltd. and president of Hunan Guohong Agricultural Tourism Development Co., Ltd., made a welcoming address in the name of the organizer. She said that she had left the hometown for more than 10 years and it was the soil fragrance of this land and her strong feelings towards it that attracted her back to invest in the country-style red cottages, hoping that she would make a contribution to the hometown by doing something to help it go out and bring guests inside. Her language, simple as soil, won waves of applause from the guests and the spectators.
On behalf of president Li Lanjun and all the members of Shaoyang International Culture Association, Mr. Zhang Qianshan, chairman of the municipal Literary Federation and deputy president of the association, extended his cordial welcome to all the people present, saying that Rape Flower Festival is a great creation containing three concepts. The first is countryside culture, which is the root of Chinese culture and world culture. By hosting annually the local culture festival, Shaoyang International Culture Association uses this brand as a means of culture exchange for communication with outside world, so that at a time when fickleness and venality prevail, we can always remember our ancestors, our soil, our homeland and our root. The second concept is red culture. It is a good idea to combine countryside culture with red culture, because red culture describes fully the regional culture of the Chinese dream, so that red culture, as the lofty spirit of the Chinese people, always reminds us of the national sufferings in the past. The third concept is culture exchange with the outside world. A lot of people are needed to excavate, systemize and popularize the cultural resources when Shaoyang culture comes from every corner of the land and moves towards the whole nation and towards the world. He said that he was happy to see so many well- known people from cultural sector who are interested in this theme coming to this meeting. He hoped that all the members of the association would do their best to introduce Shaoyang, including its history, its economy and its resources to the whole nation and the world, so that with the bridge of culture, Shaoyang’s economic development will be promoted and a beautiful chapter of the Chinese Dream will be well written.
Mr. Wang Mingxiang, director of the municipal Culture, Broadcast and News Bureau and deputy president of Shaoyang International Culture Association conferred the plaque “Shaoyang International Culture Association Cultural and Trade Office” to Shaodong “Red Cottage” of China Red Culture Promotion Association and the political commissar of Shaodong Airport presented them the plague of “Unit of Co-construction”. Mr. Jiao Chengyi, executive president of China Red Culture Promotion Association, Mr. Chang Yuansheng, called China-Korea culture exchange ambassador and subeditor of Eastar, Mr. Ouyang Guoquan, subeditor of “Motherland” Hunan office delivered flowers and consolation money to the representatives of those who fought in the Anti-Japanese War, civil war and Korea war. Then Ms Ning Ke, a young singer from Navy Song and Dance Troupe was bestowed the honor of Red Culture Ambassador by Mr. Jiao Chengyi.
After the opening ceremony, songs and dances were performed. With their songs and dances, local singers and dancers expressed their thanks for the land where they were born and bred. Ning Ke, a Shaodong-born girl and a member of Youth Federation of Guangxi Province, won people’s applause with a song “in the Field of Hope”. She is now studying in Beijing for post graduate degree. She said that she would be very happy to go back to Beijing for examination with her feet and dress covered with soil from the homeland so that her friends and relatives in Beijing could share the smell of the soil. Being honored as ambassador of red culture, she hoped to host a music concert in the hometown after her graduation. Her desire was encouraged by the whole audience which erupted in applause and gave her a standing ovation.
It was eye-opening for the people present to see Mr. Chang Yuanshen painting and Professor Sun Changjin making a calligraphy work on the spot. Mr. Chang Yuanshen is a subeditor of Eastar and honored as China-Korea culture exchange ambassador, and Professor Sun Changjin is China’s famous Mao-style calligrapher.
During the activity, Zhong Jiantogn, inheritor of Tantou New-Year Picture, Feng Xuemei, inheritor of Huayao Cross-Stitch Work and Yang Lichun, inheritor of Miao Embroidery displayed their exhibits which were admired as intangible cultural heritages by Zhao Weiji, deputy mayor and other leading officials of the municipality and the counties. Li Lianrong, counselor of a China Huangpu society and an outstanding person for China’s cultural heritage protection exhibited his cultural relics and pictures related to the Anti-Japanese War, which provided the festival with vivid realistic teaching materials.
This local cultural festival, jointly hosted by China Red Cultural Promotion Association, Hunan Guohong Agricultural Tourism Development Co., Ltd. and Shaoyang International Culture Association, was supported from the very beginning by Shaoyang Municipal Party Committee, the municipal People’s Congress, the municipal CPPCC Committee, the municipal Military Subarea, and the authorities of Shaodong County. Because of the fragrance of rape flowers and the feelings of the celebrities towards their homeland, the festival attracted a lot of media such as China Red Cultural Promotion Association, Eastar (a magazine), Homeland (a magazine), Charming County Column of CCTV, China Red Culture Net, Ta Kung Pao of Hong Kong, Hunan Daily, Xiaoxiang Morning News, Shaoyang Daily, Shaoyang TV, Shaoyang Economic Channel and Shaoyang International Culture Exchange Network.
