Longhui Honeysuckle
Since the early 1970s, Longhui Honeysuckle has been planted for over 30 years. In the recent 10 years, Longhui Honeysuckle production has been one of the main industries of Longhui County. The county government has made a set of supporting policies to accelerate its development, that is, enlarging the planting area, increasing the production and elevate the output value. In 2002, the planting area amounted to one hundred and thirty six thousand mu, the production added up to eight thousand tons, and the output value grew to one hundred million yuan more or less.. The produce sells well in large and medium cities like Guiling, Guangzhou, Chongqing and Nanjing, where large pharmaceutical factories favor Longhui Honeysuckle.
It is the flower bud of a plant of Caprifoliaceae. It contains many kinds of chemical elements, mainly chlorogenic acid, isochlorogenic acid, geraniol linalool, aldehyde, benzaldehyde, cananga oil and glycoside. Its nature is sweetness and coldness, working on the lung, heart and stomach channels. It has the functions of clearing away heat and toxic materials, cooling blood, stopping dysentery, fighting bacteria, alleviating inflammation, resisting diseases, improving immunity, decreasing lipid and protecting liver. It can treat fever caused by warm diseases, external infection of wind heat, swelling, furuncle, sore throat, pyrexia, polydipsia caused by summer heat, and finally prickly heat. It is an important medicinal material in traditional Chinese medicine. Longhui Honeysuckle is famous for its large planting area, huge production and fine quality. And therefore, Longhui County was named honorably the Land Of China’s Honeysuckle by the National Bureau Of Forestry. Longhui Honeysuckle is produced mainly in the hilly area in the northwest of Longhui, which, with an average altitude of 1000 meters, has a favorable growth environment to honeysuckle. Many experts and professors speak highly of its quality. According the detection, the chlorogenic acid that Longhui Honeysuckle contains is as much as 10.5%. Now, in addition to its drying process, the county has developed honeysuckle tea products, such as “Yipeng, Yinxian”, “Chenghe” and “Fengdu”. “Yipeng” and “Yinxian” won a gold prize of the Hunan Specialties & Fine Agricultural Produce Fair respectively in 2000 and 2003.
